Dave Bautista has already made it clear that after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 he's going to be stepping down from playing Drax 'The Destroyer'. After securing the role following his incredible success as a WWE wrestler, he has gone on to work in Hollywood as the star of Army of the Dead and playing a role in the upcoming book adaptation Dune. But back in May 2021, Bautista told IGN that Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will likely "be the end of Drax" - or at least the end of him playing the character.

The reason seems to be simple: he's getting older. On Twitter, the actor stated that by the time Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 comes out he's going to be 54 - "I'm expecting everything to start sagging any second now." He has been positive about the role being taken on by someone else, however, and there might be a ready-made actor for Drax waiting in the wings.

Marvel fans have a long time to wait before we see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but for now we've got the series Loki to keep us preoccupied...

Brett Azar has put himself forward for the role of Drax. Azar is an actor who is dedicated to keeping his muscular body in ship shape. Not only has he competed in physique competitions but he's also been a body double to the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger. And if you're good enough to look like Arnie, you're probably ripped enough to play Drax, right?

The actor tweeted simply that he's "right here" in terms of a replacement for Dave Bautista. Since then, as ScreenRant reported on his interest, saying he has doubled down on it by sharing reports of his enthusiasm. You may know his work from Jessica Jones or Young Rock so he's already proven he has some acting prowess.

Disney has a tough job replacing Drax if they do want to continue his story following Bautista's retirement, but it seems Azar is a frontrunner for the role.
