Nukes Are Dropping On 'Warzone' Right Now, Causing Apocalyptic Damage

After months of false starts, glitches, leaked audio files and rumours, Call Of Duty: Warzone's fabled nuke event is finally upon us - literally. As I write these words, Verdansk is on fire, with missiles raining down from the sky and tearing the map apart piece by piece.

We knew this day would come, of course. Previous leaks all but confirmed that a nuclear missile would be deployed to get on top of Warzone's growing zombie problem, and that's just what has happened. The undead have been blown to smithereens in a hail of death and destruction, but at the cost of Verdansk as we know it.

Titled 'The Destruction of Verdansk Pt 1', every location is marked compromised as zombies infest the entire map, with nowhere to hide for players. Once all but a handful of players are dead and returned as the undead, a nuke triggers, with a short cutscene marking the end of the iconic map.

So what happens now? Players will be able to replay the mode until, presumably, 'The Destruction of Verdansk Pt 2' arrives. Old Verdansk is going to be out of action, what with it being a nuclear wasteland and all.

Following Verdansk's complete and utter destruction, the future is less clear. What we know for sure is that the arrival of the battle royale maps later this week will mark the debut of Season 3. Activision had previously teased that Warzone Season 3 will see the game merge with Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in a much bigger way, so expect the new map to better reflect Treyarch's most recent entry.

Previous rumours strongly suggest that the new map will be a version of Verdansk from the 1980s. While this has yet to be confirmed, multiple insiders believe that we're headed back in time to a Verdansk that's the same but different, with new locations like an under-construction Stadium and a mine to explore. Warzone as we know it might be over, but the story is just beginning.
