'Warzone' Adds Intense New Map And Two New Gulags, Including Nuketown Replica

Activision and Infinity Ward have announced that Call Of Duty: Warzone is getting not one, but two new Gulags. The popular battle royale is getting a ton of new content as part of its first season of Black Ops Cold War content, and it appears that includes a complete overhaul of the game's much-loved/feared respawn mechanic.
As I'm sure you know, unlucky/crap players are sent to the Gulag when they die in Warzone for a chance to respawn. To get back out into the map, all players have to do is win in a 1v1 against an enemy player - something I'm rarely able to do. The Gulag has since gone on to become something of an icon thanks to Warzone's immense popularity, and most of us have more than a few stories from our time in the prison... none of them good.
Of course after nearly an entire year, I'm sure some of us were getting a little sick of seeing those same dingy cells over and over again. I know I was, but then again I was getting sent there a lot more than the average player. Still, the good news is that these new Gulags will offer completely fresh surroundings while maintaining the same intense 1v1 action as players scramble for revival.
The first new Gulag is coming to the Verdansk Warzone during the launch week of Season One, on December 16th, and should look familiar to fans of Black Ops. It's a secret training facility built by the Soviets who constructed Black Ops Cold War's Amerika Town, or in other words, it's a neat little Nuketown replica.
"The design is a makeshift replica of the original Nuketown map layout with both home interiors and backyard barricaded off, focusing the duel to a confined central arena," Activision explains. "Prisoners must now weave through or around the parked bus and faux truck to meet their target or take a risk by climbing up one of the home's awnings to get solid sightlines across the zone. As usual, the last Operator standing, or the one that grabs the central overtime flag, gets a second chance in Verdansk."
The second new Gulag, meanwhile, is coming to Warzone's new Rebirth Island map - a much tighter battle royale map for quicker, more intense games. The Gulag here will be located underneath the island complex.
"This classified location has a grim history, as certain inmates were experimented on as part of Perseus' plot to turn the tide of the Cold War," Activision writes.
"This new 1v1 experience is centered around the chamber in question, with prisoners of Warzone starting on the end of one of two hallways that run parallel to the center room. Although these pathways offer a quick route across the floor, both of them have a metal detector that will go off whenever an Operator passes through, adding an additional element of strategy to this intense duel for survival. And remember: your fellow prisoners can still lob rocks down into the arena while they wait for their shot at a second chance."
