Dark Souls is a beloved series by FromSoftware that punishes you if you don't “git gud” and even if you do “git gud” it will still beat the living daylights out of you and you’ll still come back for more. It’s why we all love FromSoftware, right?

Whether it’s Demon’s Souls, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon or Bloodborne, there’s a unique charm about FromSoftware titles that many development studios have tried to replicate but very few have even come close. FromSoftware is one of the most legendary developers and for good reason. At the forefront of the studio are the gruelling Dark Souls series and Elden Ring.

The topic of today’s discussion, it’s about about Dark Souls III and its amazing modding community and in particular, the ‘Archtrones’ mod which is so epic that it’s basically a new game. Oh, and it will be totally free to download.

‘Dark Souls: Archthrones’ blends together Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III, and from what we hear, it will even borrow certain elements from Demon’s Souls. It will remix areas and boss encounters from the two most recent Dark Souls entries and players will access its five worlds from the Nexus of Embers.

The developer of ‘Dark Souls: Archthrones’ also intends to add new NPCs, enemies, questlines, an overhaul of the level progression, and even new secrets for the player to discover. It also seems that players will be spending quite a bit of time exploring eerie and claustrophobic catacombs. To keep updated on the development of ‘Dark Souls: Archthrones’, you can check out the dedicated Patreon page.

At this time, ‘Dark Souls: Archthrones’ does not have a release date. However, as with the nature of most mods, it will only be available on PC. Dark Souls III is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
