Fortnite Chapter 7 Revives Lost Media Over 20 Years in the Making

Kill Bill, again

Fortnite x Kill Bill is one of the wildest collaborations yet for Epic Games’ battle royale, and one that finally completes one of Quentin Tarantino’s best.

When I first learned that Fortnite was going to collaborate with Quentin Tarantino and Uma Thurman, I rightly thought that we’d be getting some skins from the Kill Bill films and maybe a Mythic weapon or two. Sure enough, we are with Fortnite Chapter 7 but this time around, Epic Games has gone the extra mile and delivered something truly remarkable.

As I’m sure many Fortnite players will know, whenever a chapter ends, the next one is ushered in with a major in-game event, often a musical performance.

This time, however, players are getting treated to a once-in-a-lifetime film screening of a forgotten chapter of Quentin Tarantino’s fourth film Kill Bill.

For a bit of context, Tarantino has spoken in the past about how the first draft of Kill Bill featured a fight between The Bride and Yuki, Gogo’s sister who wasn’t present when The Bride stormed the House of Blue Leaves.

In keeping with the film’s most prominent theme, Yuki sought revenge and the pair battled it out off-screen, as filming restrictions prevented it from ever being part of the finished film.

Now with the power of Fortnite and Unreal Engine 5, Epic Games has collaborated with Tarantino and Thurman to deliver Kill Bill’s Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge to usher in Chapter 7.

GAMINGbible travelled to LA, California, to attend an exclusive screening of the animated addition to the film’s lore and it was spectacular.

Thurman reprises her role as The Bride, providing both her voice and facial capture.

The performance along with some stunning animation from Epic Games makes for a cinematic and thrilling segment, complete with the humorous addition of beloved Fortnite characters. Whilst Fortnite doesn’t allow the gore and bloodshed you’d associate with Quentin Tarantino’s work, it does mark the first time characters have sworn, which triggered thunderous laughter from the audience at the preview event.

I adored seeing this scene play out, and considering Kill Bill features anime segments, I could fully envision this Fortnite scene being spliced into the final cut of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair without raising too many eyebrows. While that won’t be happening, it was so exciting to see this legendary lost chapter finally realised and you could tell it meant a lot to Tarantino, who was in attendance, for it to see the light of day.

With Fortnite Chapter 7 being all about California with an emphasis on Hollywood legends, this was the perfect way to kick off the new era, and I’m hoping it’s not the last time Epic Games tries something so innovative and bold.

Fortnite Chapter 7 launches on 30 November, packing in plenty of fun additions to mark the occasion.
