In all fairness to 2025, it has been an absolutely bumper year for video games across the board, with fans of all genres seemingly treated to a bunch of excellent titles over the last ten or so months.
That has led to some genuinely excellent games falling by the wayside somewhat, swallowed up by the mass appeal of the biggest releases of the year.
Though it has been very successful in its own right, Atomfall developer Rebellion can feel slightly aggrieved that their game isn't in more conversations for the best of 2025, because it absolutely deserves to be.
Atomfall follows the player as the explore an alternative 1960s version of the North West of England, which has become a quarantine zone after a disaster at the Windscale nuclear power plant.

It's a brilliant example of storytelling and a unique take on a saturated genre, that's well worth playing. If you already have jumped in, or are planning to do so in the future, the developers have just dropped a free update that's set to sweeten the deal even further.

Sniper Elite Rears Its Head In Atomfall
The free update has now rolled out and it includes several highly requested features, as well as new items for you to collect as you explore the dystopian game world.

In a nice full circle moment for Rebellion they have added three of the most well-used weapons from their major WW2 franchise Sniper Elite, for players to collect, including a rifle, pistol and knife for up-close kills.
The headline change coming with the update is the addition of the Rapid Transit Network, which will allow you to fast travel to already discovered locations by accessing hatches in the game's outdoor sandbox areas.
The update also features several, largely unspecified, refinements to the combat system, designed to make it feel more fluid, as well as Phobia Safe Mode, which alters some of the more potentially triggering models in the game into less offensive alternatives.
All of that comes at the same time as the release of a Complete Edition for Atomfall, which includes both The Red Strain and Wicked Isle story expansions. It also comes complete with basic and enhanced supply bundles that contain items to help you survive in the wilds, as well as a new skin for the metal detector and other exclusive weapons.

The update is totally free to players, regardless of which version of the game they own, while the Complete Edition is available to purchase now for £79.99/$89.99, depending on your location.
