Dino Crisis revival quietly teased, and it's about damn time

Please dear god don't let this just be a mobile game...

Capcom has just renewed the trademark for the Dino Crisis IP, sparking rumours that they may finally revisit the franchise at some point in our lifetimes.

This news comes by way of Gematsu, who spotted that Capcom officially renewed the Dino Crisis trademark on March 4 (which was then made public last night).

Now, unfortunately, that really is the start and end of the news. The trademark filing itself doesn’t offer up any specific info, as is often the case, nor does it state that this is in regard to a specific game.

If you’re a pessimist, you might say that this is Capcom simply renewing the IP so it doesn’t fall into public domain, with zero intention of actually doing anything with it.

If you’re an optimist however, then it’s time to fire up the hype train because Dino Crisis might be back for real this time baby!

The Dino Crisis community itself seems to be somewhere between the two, based on comments discussing the news over on the r/DinoCrisis subreddit.

“If we are getting Onimusha, there is a decent chance we'll see Dino crisis at some point. Coupled with the fact that Capcom have stated that they want to bring back older IP's and that Dino crisis was the most voted for game that fans wanted to be brought back,” commented user kennypeace.

“The odds are better than not, that we'll see one at some point. The IP trademark means near nothing tho.”

“Probably a remake,” replied user tokin_mex.

“Capcom dropped a poll a while back, asking people what games they'd like to see get remade, and Dino Crisis was at the top.”

Those comments aren’t wrong either, as the original Dino Crisis did top Capcom’s “Super Elections” poll recently, beating the likes of Resident Evil 4, Okami and Monster Hunter: World.

So, are we back for real? Well, I’d suggest you keep your expectations low just in case, but I have a good feeling about this one.

Capcom has been on a bit of a winning streak lately, and I can’t think of any better way to stay on top than to make a new title for one of their most forgotten, yet still beloved franchises.
