Diablo IV has arrived and while most players are thrilled with the latest instalment in the franchise, one player has lost a gut-wrenching 24 hours of hardcore mode progress after falling asleep mid-stream.

It’s been a great start for Diablo IV. Well, besides the whole debacle of PlayStation 5 users struggling to gain access on launch day. It’s already one of the highest rated games of the year, with a very respectable score of 92 over on Metacritic, putting it in seventh place behind Resi 4, Tetris Effect: Connected, Street Fighter 6, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition’s new-gen patch, Metroid Prime Remastered, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Plenty of streamers are giving the game a whirl right now, including one who lost 24 hours of hardcore mode progress. Ouch, that’s got to hurt.

Take a look at the trailer for Diablo IV below.

As reported by Dexerto, streamer AMValentine1 had been working through Diablo IV quests all day long during a livestream, with the goal of perfecting his Druid build. I should add that the streamer was playing on hardcore mode. As you might guess with a 24 hour stream, AMValentine1 soon got pretty tired and accidentally nodded off mid-stream. Thankfully, the streamer felt himself drifting off, saying, “I’m daydreaming. I’m f**king daydreaming. That was like two seconds. I almost f**king died, bro. That could have been it. Damn.”

AMValentine1’s luck was about to run out. A while later, the streamer actually did fall asleep during a combat sequence. As you might’ve guessed, AMValentine1’s character died in battle meaning the streamer lost all of the progress made during the 24-hour session. He woke up a few seconds later and soon realised what had happened. “I fell asleep,” he said. “I was about to log out, man. Holy s**t. Well, there goes my hardcore journey.”

“It was right in front of me and I f**ked it up. I f**ked it up because I didn’t go to sleep when I should. I should have said ‘f**k this quest, I can barely keep my eyes open,’ but I got stubborn. Now, it’s over for good. I wasted 24 f**king hours. I streamed for 24 hours and now I’m f**king dead for good.” Despite the major loss, AMValentine1 assured viewers that he’d embark on another attempt. Now that is commitment.
