Dark Souls meets Skyrim in this brutal free download

My two favourite fantasy games in one

The Dark Souls games are quite possibly my favourite trilogy of all time, yes even Dark Souls II.

With that in mind I’m very excited to try this mod, which forces a first-person perspective onto the best game in the trilogy, Dark Souls III.

Ever wondered what a typical day in Lothric would be like? Check out our video below to find out

Personally I like Dark Souls more but purely from a nostalgia point-of-view, I can acknowledge and appreciate Dark Souls III as the superior game.

Either way I never expected to be able to play it like this, as First Person Souls does exactly what it says on the tin and lets the player experience the entire game, from start to finish, from a first-person perspective, like you're playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim but harder.

No doubt it’ll be a little jarring at first but I’d imagine once you get used to it you’d have a blast, and it’d certainly make the boss fights more exciting and challenging.

My only concern is how much you’d probably have to rely on the lock-on system, as some bosses are actually easier when you don’t lock onto them as they become less aggressive and more predictable this way. Plus some bosses are massive so locking on messes with the camera a bit too much.

Nevertheless it looks great, and the screenshots do it justice, especially the one of the Mimic chest grabbing an unsuspecting player. I love that.

If you’re interested and have Dark Souls III on your PC you can try the mode out for free right now and see what you think, as it’d probably make for a great challenge for those who know the game inside and out.

Will we ever get an official FromSoftware game with a first-person mode? Well we technically already have as that’s what King’s Field was, the developer’s first game.

Maybe one day the studio will revisit that IP and give us a new instalment, whether it be a brand-new adventure or a remake.
