Cyberpunk 2077 surprise DLC unveiled in new trailer

This is unexpected

In a very bizarre twist, there’s a crossover coming between Cyberpunk 2077 and the free-to-play extraction shooter, Arena Breakout Infinite.

This certainly wasn’t on my Bingo card, but CD Projekt Red has confirmed the collaboration in a tweet, and the Arena Breakout Infinite team have updated their socials to reflect the news.

It’s not a crossover that feels destined, as the two games are very different, with one being a futuristic action-RPG, and the other a militaristic extraction shooter.

However, Cyberpunk 2077 will be entering that world, and it’s being showcased in a short cinematic of an Arena Breakout Infinite player wearing Cyberpunk clothing.

Arena Breakout Infinite takes the extraction shooter genre and opens it up to more casual players with its free-to-play model, and fills the game with microtransactions in order to makes in-game deaths less painful.

So, this crossover is likely to be purchasable outfits for the player character, perhaps with some weapon skins thrown in for good measure.

It seems this was an unexpected for fans, as it was for me, with many of the replies to both companies saying this is a shock collab.

However, with more and more shooters bringing in other games and pop culture references, this shouldn’t have been as surprising as it is.

Will the collab pull over more players to the shooter, with those who love the hi jinks of Night City wanting more of that action?

Given how different the two are, it’s asking a lot, and we don’t even know how much the skins will cost.

That’s not stopping some from getting excited, with one fan on Twitter saying, “WHAT!!! MY 2 FAVOURITE GAMES??? LET’S GOOOOO”

Arena Breakout Infinite is currently available on PC, but also has a mobile counterpart, and it’s unclear if this crossover is only for PC players, so keep your eyes peeled for more information as it comes out.
