There may still be a few years until we finally get our hands on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel but thanks to a recent update by CD Projekt RED, we at least know that the highly-anticipated game is still on track.

Yesterday saw CD Projekt RED reveal that the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel has entered its pre-production phase.

So what does that mean exactly?

That means that Cyberpunk 2 will now be undergoing its initial planning phase where developers will focus on the core concept of the game and its initial design.

Put simply, this means that although it has entered its next phase, the game will still be quite a long way away from release.

Nevertheless, with CD Projekt RED mainly focusing on The Witcher 4 at present, it is still exciting to learn that progress is still being made with the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.

As of right now, there are 96 developers working on the project and it has even been rumoured that the game will be known as Cyberpunk 2 as opposed to its recently codename of Project Orion.

Of course, this is just a rumour and it does seem a bit too generic for CDPR but nonetheless, we are making progress.

Following the news, fans took to r/cyberpunkgame overnight to share their thoughts on the recent update.

“Given they already have a basis on what they want this world to look like, are using Unreal now, and have more established methods of doing stuff, it shouldn’t take as long as the first game,” user PS3Love shared.

“The first game, especially in a big open world game with so much world building, always takes the longest.

Oh also CDPR has a team in Boston now so it’s not just going to be in Poland.

I don’t expect a quick development time as it’s probably still going to be a massive open world RPG but I expect it to go smoother than the first game.”

User nise8446 is also feeling optimistic, adding: “This will be the only reason I'll have to upgrade my PC after 5 years. They can take as long as they need to.”

As mentioned, Cyberpunk 2 will still be many years away from release but its progress is still enough to keep that hype alive for fans.
