Cyberpunk 2077 getting whole new area in free update

Cyberpunk 2077 getting whole new area in free update

Cyberpunk 2077's upcoming Update 2.1 will be adding a new explorable metro system.

Cyberpunk 2077 fans were fed well this year. Between the Phantom Liberty expansion and Update 2.0, the game finally reached its full potential and it was oh so glorious to behold.

CD Projekt RED developers have since thanked fans for not abandoning the game after the ‘heartbreaking’ launch. While there remains no excuse for the state in which Cyberpunk 2077 released, it’s joyous to see the original vision now brought to life. Having finally won fans over, the Cyberpunk 2077 franchise is expanding. A sequel is confirmed, with devs already dropping teases, plus a live-action ‘project’ is on the way. It’s not yet been confirmed whether it’s a TV series or film. We were under the impression that the game would receive no further updates, with dev attention shifting over to The Witcher 4 but lo and behold, the massive Update 2.1 is about to drop.

Take a look at Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty in action below.

Update 2.1 is a pleasant surprise. It will introduce new romance scenes for Panam and Judy but perhaps more excitingly, the long-awaited metro system - forming a new wide-spread area for players to explore. Officially titled the Night City Rapid Transit, the metro has 19 stations in total. While you can use these as fast travel points, I’d argue that is the boring way of approaching things.

You can actually venture down into the metro system and ride the train to your location, and I wholeheartedly hope that’s what you’re all going to do. Dubbed “a proper metro ride experience”, I can’t imagine many Cyberpunk 2077 fans are going to turn down the chance to experience yet another layer to the enthralling Night City.

The update is also set to introduce a personal radio, known as a Radioport, so you can listen to music on the go - perfectly sealing the immaculate vibes of your metro-riding experience. Add in the fact that new vehicles are on the way and Update 2.1 is shaping up to be a delicious year-ending treat. It should drop tomorrow, on 5 December, at which point the full patch notes will also be released.
