When I think of Cillian Murphy these days, I naturally associate him with his star role as Tommy Shelby in the wildly successful Peaky Blinders but of course, there are many other strings to this actor’s bow. One of Cillian’s earliest roles was in Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later - a little horror film I’m guessing you may have heard of.
Set around a virus that leads to the breakdown of society, this 2003 film (and its sequel 28 Weeks Later) experienced a surge in popularity during the Covid-19 pandemic. What do you do when you're experiencing the outbreak of a deadly virus? Watch a film about the outbreak of a deadly virus, it seems. Cillian didn’t appear in the film’s sequel but given the renewed interest in the franchise, he’d be interested in returning for a possible third instalment.
Looking for a spooky new watch? Netflix’s The Midnight Club has proved to be very popular.
Director Danny Boyle recently revealed in an interview with NME that a 28 Months Later script had been written by Alex Garland, who also wrote 28 Days Later. Boyle described it as a “lovely idea,” and teased that he’s onboard to return as director. He said, “I'd be very tempted [to direct it]. It feels like a very good time actually. It's funny, I hadn't thought about it until you just said it, and I remembered 'Bang, this script!' which is again set in England, very much about England. Anyway, we'll see… who knows?"

As reported by GamesRadar, Cillian Murphy shares the desire to return. He previously said, “Every time I do bump into Danny or Alex I always mention it because I showed it to my kids recently, some Halloween about four or five years ago, and they loved it. It really stands up, which is amazing for a film that's 20 years old. So yeah, I love the idea and it's very appealing to me."
With Peaky Blinders having drawn to a close earlier this year, Cillian’s schedule is certainly more open now. Please universe, make this happen.
