At least that’s one fix

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 developers have deployed a fix that at least corrects one of the game's worst issues.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is a bit of an oddball of a game. In terms of value, with its amount of content, you get a lot of bang for your buck. However, quantity isn't quality, and that’s how I felt when reviewing Activision’s latest in the long-running military shooter franchise.

“If there’s anything that I’ve learned from Black Ops 7, it's that the annual releases need to come to an end ASAP, so that the developers can have more time to ensure that each new release lives up to the legacy of this series that has been built over the last two decades,” I said in my review, scoring it a 6/10.

Always-Online Requirement Is a Major Problem

One of the main issues that I had with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was its underwhelming story campaign, which failed to keep me gripped from the get-go. This is coming from someone who typically loves most Call of Duty story campaigns.

One of the other big issues with the story campaign is its lobby system that acts like a multiplayer mode, given that it can be played with up to four players. Yet, even when playing solo, it will still act as a multiplayer lobby with an always-online requirement.

This means no pausing, as I found out after taking a very short break. When I returned, I got kicked from my own solo lobby for inactivity. Oh, and when I went back into that mission, I had to start from scratch.

Unfortunately, while the above issue is yet to be fixed, at least one problem has been corrected with its multiplayer extraction mode, ‘Endgame’.

An Issue With Endgame Has Been Fixed, At Least

No matter the game, unintentional disconnects in multiplayer games happen, even when we have the best internet connection. In a lot of cases, it can be due to no fault of the player, with the issue related to the game's servers.

This is especially a problem in extraction games when you're competing with other players for rare loot. When this happens in ‘Endgame’, players have lost progress and are unable to rejoin the game.

Thankfully, developers Treyarch have come up with a fix, of sorts. In a nutshell, if you get a disconnect, ‘Endgame’ will retain your progress and loot from the beginning of the last game you played.

“Now, when you deploy to Avalon, we’ll snapshot your Combat Rating at the start of the match. Earn progress and extract to grow your Combat Rating; fall in combat or fail to escape, and you’ll lose it all,” reads the recent patch notes for Black Ops 7.

“However, in the event that a disconnect does occur, you’ll now begin your next match at the Combat Rating that you entered your previous match into to continue back on your path of reaching CR 60.”

Hopefully, fixing the issues with solo story campaign lobbies and having a proper checkpoint system that saves your progress, not to mention not kicking you from your own game, will be the next big fix.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
