A new Bloodborne release titled Shadows of the Hunt has just been released, and it’s a must-play if you have the means to.
Bloodborne is now ten years old, and it might just be the most-requested video game remaster project ever.
It is, unfortunately, still stuck in 30FPS jail on the PS4. Considering how well FromSoftware games play at higher framerates and resolutions, it’s a big shame that it hasn’t received the remaster treatment yet.
One Soulsborne modder is determined to do what Sony refuses to do, however, with their new release titled Bloodborne: Shadows of the Hunt.

Bloodborne: Shadows of the Hunt is the latest version of fromsoftserve’s PC remaster project, which aims to overhaul the game’s visuals, particularly in terms of lighting.
As fromsoftserve said themselves over on X (formerly Twitter), this new version of the mod is more of a formal name change, as it still brings the same functions as the previous versions.
It was previously titled Bloodborne PC visual mod, and is now given a more confusing name of Shadows of the Hunt. I guess that’s because it overhauls the shadows in the game, though it still feels like the older name described what the mod did a little better.
We’re about to get technical here, so strap yourself in. The mod improves shadows by adding dynamic shadowcasting for the entire game, as well as modifying the shadows range and visibility.
It also enables more ambient occlusion and improves the texture level-of-detail effects, so things hopefully don’t become less blurry as you move away from them. It also disables in-game antialiasing as well as SSAO.
Basically, everything from reflections, to surfaces, to lighting is going to look a lot crisper and overall better.
Finally, the mod also introduces new colourgrading effects which are different from the base game, as fromsoftserve explains here: “Fromsoft made 2-3 alternate colorgrades for each version of each map. I pick which one I like most, and go with that. Sometimes I keep the original colorgrade. Expect a bit more color and vibrancy.”
Bloodborne: Shadows of the Hunt is only available for emulated copies of Bloodborne which run on shadPS4 on PC, rather than console versions.
We can’t tell you how to do that here, nor do we encourage piracy. So, if you’re going to try emulating Bloodborne on PC, make sure that you do it with your own copy of the game.
