If you’ve just come back from seeing Kane Parsons’ Backrooms at the cinema, you might be aware of the various video games that are out there which deliver a similar experience in interactive form.
The best backrooms games are ones which immerse you within the labyrinthine walls of the ever-expanding liminal spaces, where you can be unnerved more by your isolation as opposed to any monsters lurking within.
From action shooters to psychological exploration games, our list has a healthy mix of different kinds of experiences to ensure you’re fulfilled.
Let’s get lost in the wide variety of different backrooms experiences you can get on Steam today.

We’re kicking off the list with Dreamcore, which focuses on the psychological aspects of the Backrooms series, complete with an excellent VHS filter to give everything that retro feel.
Dreamcore is home to some of the largest liminal spaces you can find in gaming, and with no waypoints, guides, or directions, you have to find your own escape using observation and intuition.

While most games in this genre usually don’t involve combat, and are instead about you running around at the mercy of the entities residing in the backrooms, Backrooms Break can offer some much-needed catharsis once you’re done being scared.
Backrooms Break is essentially what you get when you drop Doomguy in the backrooms. Break down walls, use weapons to demolish entities, and overcome your fears through the use of violence.

If you want a co-operative backrooms experience, your best odds are trying out Escape the Backrooms (which also just recently launched on PlayStation and Xbox).
Supporting up to 4-player co-op, you explore over 30 eerie backrooms levels, all while you must avoid entities and other dangers posed at you. A fun one to play with friends if you’re bored on a Friday night.

Like Dreamcore, POOLS is an exploration-focused backrooms game which allows you to wander the “poolrooms”, which allow you to explore, admire, and listen.
In POOLS, there aren’t any monsters chasing you, but it’ll still feel oppressive at times due to the fear of getting lost in dark, tight spaces.

The Complex: Expedition is arguably the closest backrooms-style game to Kane Parsons’ series that we could find, utilising the uncanny liminal spaces and fuzzy VHS-filter to the utmost degree. The result? Complete immersion.
The game has a storyline to follow, where you play as a member of a science crew investigating the backrooms. Becoming lost inside the labyrinthine maze of rooms, you must find your way out while also surviving your encounter with one of the entities residing inside the backrooms.
