It was announced during The Game Awards that the new Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown game from Ubisoft will be available to play and try out with a demo released on 11 January 2024.

The latest instalment in the Prince of Persia franchise is a return to the 2D side-scrolling formula that made the game famous, while this time around expanding the design into the MetroidVania genre bringing it to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.

Players take control of Sargon, who must travel the area of Mount Qaf on the hunt for rebels, solving puzzles, finding secrets, and completing side quests. From the majestic Citadel of Knowledge to the colourful landscapes of the Hyrcanian Forest, players will discover a variety of environments inspired by Persian mythology. Combat will have you tackling mystical animals, villagers, and enormous creatures, while exploration is boosted by time-wielding powers and unique abilities.

Prince of Persia has a storied history stretching back to 1989 where it debuted on home computers before being ported to over 20 systems. Created to give players a sense of playing as Indiana Jones, the original game was a huge success and spawned several sequels.

Once Ubisoft acquired the rights to the series they rebooted it into a 3D time-travelling adventure starting with The Sands of Time which took the industry by storm. It soon became a huge fan favourite. The new game appears to combine the original’s side-scrolling aesthetics with dashes of powers and abilities from the modern trilogy from Xbox 360 and PS3 era.

The free demo will allow players to get a taste of the new game before the full release. The full game will be released 18 January for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, as well as Windows PC through the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store.
