Sony is pulling out all the stops this festive season with the arrival of an exciting title to its PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers.

Perfect for fans of Assassin’s Creed and Lord of the Rings, Middle-earth: Shadow of War is now available for PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers for no extra cost. With the title usually marketing at £34.99, this is a huge deal and it is set to end on 19 December at 10:00AM GMT.

Check out the Middle-earth: Shadow of War trailer below!

First released in 2017, Middle-earth: Shadow of War is a direct sequel to 2014's Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor with both titles being inspired by the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. The action-adventure video game will task you with going behind enemy lines to forge your army, conquer fortresses and dominate Mordor from within. You will confront the full power of Sauron and his Ringwraiths all whilst working to forge a new Ring of Power.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War currently sits at a ‘very positive’ rating on Steam with many players saying the sequel was better than its predecessor as it has “more customisation, skills, items and gems” and the combat is “vicious”.

One reviewer admits to loving it, saying: “What a great game, tons to do, big open world maps to explore, LOTS of bloody fights with the orcs, good leveling system and skills. Played on both Steam Deck and PC flawlessly, Loved it.”

Metacritic marks Middle-earth: Shadow of War at a ‘generally favourable’ title based on critic reviews but only a ‘mixed or average’ user rating.

“Everything about this game outdoes the first, and with the expanded Nemesis System, superb combat, and epic story, you'll be immersed for a long time,” claimed God is a Geek. However, one player was unhappy with the game’s use of microtransactions: “Ignoring the apparent micro-transaction controversy, I found this game clunky and unconvincing. The stealth mode wasn't at all intuitive, and the mechanics of the takedowns and combat just felt awkward.”

It is worth trying out the game for yourself and finding out where you stand. Luckily you can download Middle-earth: Shadow of War for free if you are a PlayStation Plus Extra member. Hurry! You haven’t got long.
