It's a good time to be a Starship Troopers fan, isn't it? The 1997 Paul Verhoeven sci-fi flick has gone on to become an incredible cult hit, and we're finally starting to get video games that live up to its noble legacy.
Earlier this year we had Starship Troopers: Terran Command, a fantastic real-time strategy game that put players right into the thick of battle with those pesky Bugs. As if that wasn't enough, it turns out we're also getting a brand-new first-person shooter set in the movie's universe.
Offworld Industries has officially announced Starship Troopers: Extermination, a brutal looking new first-person co-op shooter will allow 12 players to drop into immersive firefights with the Bug scourge. Will you do your part?
"No Trooper stands alone," reads the game's press release. "As soon as the dropship hits dirt, your trusty Morita Assault Rifle and fellow Deep Space Vanguard Troopers are all that will keep you alive while exploring the hostile surface of the planet Valaka. Work together to complete objectives, acquire resources, build and defend a base, and then escape to the extraction point together.”

Starship Troopers: Extermination is coming to Steam Early Access in 2023. Players will be able to choose between three classes (Assault, Support, and Defense) as they take part in "large scale battles" that balance resource management, base building, and strategy with good old-fashioned bug-blasting action.
We can also expect multiple enemy types, a handy ping system, and a range of side objectives that aim to keep matches feeling fresh and surprising. Given how well well Terran Command turned out, we've definitely got high hopes for Extermination. One to keep an eye on next year, for sure.
