Hogwarts Legacy: how to unlock the broom and start flying

Finally, Hogwarts Legacy arrives this week, and fans have been wondering, when can we grab that broom and start flying?

Developed by Avalanche Software, Hogwarts Legacy was officially revealed in September 2020. However, since that time it has suffered multiple delays. Thankfully, we can now rest assured that the Wizarding World action RPG is nearly upon us.

In Hogwarts Legacy, we can not only explore the halls of Hogwarts but also its surroundings too. The game promises to be huge in terms of scope, with a vast open-world map as revealed in a recently leaked gameplay video.

What’s more, it has been reported that Hogwarts Legacy will take roughly 60 to 70 hours to acquire its Platinum Trophy on PlayStation with 603 collectables, 95 Merlin Trials, and 57 side quests. As a whole, Hogwarts Legacy should keep us entertained for upwards of 120 hours.

Outside of Hogwarts castle, players will be able to explore iconic locations such as Hogsmeade Village, Diagon Alley, the Forbidden Forest and much more. So players will be wondering how we can arrive at such locations in a timely manner.

Thankfully, fans will be able to explore the world of Hogwarts Legacy with the ye olde faithful flying broom. However, seeing as Hogwarts Legacy is set during the late 1800s, don't expect to ride the Nimbus 2000 any time soon.

How do you unlock the broom in Hogwarts Legacy?

You don't actually get the broom until a little later on in the story, so simply play through the story! It took us about two hours, so don't worry if you're exploring Hogwarts and feel like you've missed it.

To get the broom you need to start the quest ‘Flying Class’, which unlocks after the main quest ‘Hunt For The Missing Pages’.

'Flying Class' is essentially a brief flying tutorial where you learn the basics. However, you'll need to give your starter broom back at the end of class.

If you want your very own broom, you can buy one from the flying supplies store in Hogsmeade (after having completed 'Flying Class'). Once you've handed over the gold. the broom is unlocked in the item wheel and can be used at any time (assuming you're outside).

In recent news, Hogwarts Legacy boycotters have claimed that buying the game is an “ugly look” on account of Wizard World creator, J.K. Rowling's hurtful comments towards the trans community.

Hogwarts Legacy releases this week for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on Friday, 10th February. However, if you pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition, you can start playing tomorrow on Tuesday 7th February.

As for PS4 and Xbox One players, Hogwarts Legacy has a release date of 4th April, followed by the 25th of July for Nintendo Switch.
