GTA 5's Michael is teasing his return in a new expansion

Is Michael set to return in an upcoming GTA 5 expansion?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock lately, then the biggest news in the video game industry has all been about GTA VI.

Earlier this month, following a report from reputable news journalist Jason Schreier, Rockstar Games’ hand was seemingly forced when it announced that the first official trailer for GTA VI would be released sometime during early December. So with all the GTA VI hype making waves across social media, it would be easy to forget about GTA V, right?

Check out the GTA V trailer below!

While the hope of an expansion for Grand Theft Auto V died a long ago, Rockstar Games has supported GTA Online with a wealth of expansion-sized content for its current biggest cash cow. In recent times, GTA Online has been no stranger to introducing celebrity characters such as Dr. Dre or even characters from the story campaign of GTA V who we actually saw die.

However, it seems that GTA Online is bringing back another character from Grand Theft Auto V and it’s one of the three main playable protagonists, Michael De Santa. Out of all the three main characters in GTA V, I’d argue that Michael was the worst of them all.

Franklin was seemingly a nice guy, but he also had taken part in some very questionable activities. Trevor was an outright psychopath, but at least he was upfront about it. Yet Michael gave the impression that he was a family man, but he was very manipulative and selfish. Regardless, there’s no doubt that the Michael character helped make the story of GTA V as captivating as it was and it seems that he might be making a return to manipulate us once more.

So why do some believe that Michael De Santa is returning in the Grand Theft Auto Series, I hear you ask? On 10 November 2023, a tweet from Gaming Detective read: “I’d love for Rockstar to release a Michael DLC for GTA Online this winter to properly finish off its storyline. It’d be a great final DLC for the game that would be followed by the GTA VI marketing. Here’s hoping.”

The actor who portrays the character, Ned Luke retweeted with the reply: “Wouldn’t that be nice?” followed by five stars which could reference the number five in Grand Theft Auto V. Obviously we should take this tweet with a pinch of salt at this time as it's by no means confirming the return of the Michael character. That being said at the very least, it seems that his actor is open to that possibility.

GTA V and GTA Online are out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. As for the next entry in this series, Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be released between 2024 to 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
