King Of Meat preview: Fall Guys meets Dark Souls in a party game worth waiting for

Wacky, silly, party fun

King Of Meat is Amazon's latest gaming project and it's actually rather good.

Playing it at this year's Summer Game Fest it was immediately clear this was a Fall Guys-esque game that goes a step further than its competitors, championing player freedom and creativity over everything else.

It's Fall Guys meets Dark Souls, set within a medieval game show akin to Total Wipeout where players must navigate perilous dungeons in a race to the finish.

Competitors can customise their characters with various clothing and weapon options, the goofier the better, and jump straight into the action, using their winnings to buy more outfits in the hub world.

It's not just character customisation though, as King Of Meat champions creativity further by giving players the option to create their own dungeons, even submitting them for a chance of them becoming actual maps.

After having a go at making my own dungeon I can say it's rather intuitive. Construction is as simple as dragging and connecting rooms in the configuration you want before selecting enemies, traps and decor to give it some flavour. I can see lots of potential for some deadly creations here, Super Mario Maker levels of challenge.

All in all it was good fun, and one that'll probably be best played with friends but the online multiplayer should be more than enough too.
