Grand Theft Auto VI is going to be the biggest game launch of 2026, possibly the decade too.
It’ll tell a new story about the new protagonists, Lucia and Jason, who were inspired by the real-life criminal couple Bonnie and Clyde.
From the trailers, they look like a match made in heaven but who knows what trials and tribulations await them in GTA VI’s story, and what familiar faces they might bump into along the way…
Below are five previous Grand Theft Auto protagonists we’d love to see appear in GTA VI, either as minor characters in the game’s story or cheeky cameos.
The last time we saw Franklin was in one of the GTA Online DLCs and he’d really moved up in the world.

He now runs his own celebrity agency, which means he probably does a lot of travelling all around the globe. Whether his business takes him to Vice City remains to be seen but if there are any celebrity interactions in GTA VI, there’s a good chance Franklin might be involved.
Fans are expecting one last update for GTA: Online that reunites Franklin, Michael and Trevor for one last heist, so perhaps we’ll get a clue on what he might get up to next
Niko Bellic is fondly remembered as the main protagonist of GTA IV but Luis Fernando Lopez deserves a bit of love too.

He works as the main bodyguard of Tony in the Ballad Of Gay Tony DLC, and when we later catch up with Tony in yet another GTA: Online expansion Luis is nowhere to be found. He doesn’t even get brought up in conversation.
As far as we’re aware though Luis is still one of Tony’s business partners and helps run his nightclubs. Tony is clearly hungry for expansion though, as we see in GTA: Online, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see him open yet another nightclub somewhere in Leonida, a nightclub Lucia and Jason might visit before crossing paths with Luis…
What happened to CJ after GTA: San Andreas feels like one of the biggest mysteries in gaming and as usual, Rockstar Games is giving nothing away.
Perhaps it’s finally time to put the rumours to bed though, and have him reappear somewhere in GTA VI.
We’re not expecting a big role and we’re not expecting it to explain what he’s been up to in the years following his spin-off game but just the knowledge that he’s alive and well would let us sleep at night.
Trevor is such a chaotic character that you can stick him anywhere with no real consequence. While Steven Ogg has been very outspoken about not wanting to return, he might be tempted if GTA VI brings Trevor back in the right way…
Ogg has said he’d be down to play Trevor in the next game if he gets brutally killed off at the start, much like what Trevor did to the GTA IV: Lost and Damned protagonist Johnny in his introductory scene.

Maybe on one of his benders, Trevor flies a plane out to Leonida before meeting Jason in a bar. The two clash and Jason effortlessly lands a killing blow, bringing a sudden and conclusive end to Trevor’s life of violence. Sure, we’d be sad about it but you can’t say it wouldn’t be a fitting fate for Trevor to finally bite off more than he can chew.
Out of everyone on this list, the most likely to return is Tommy Vercitti. Vice City is his turf and while GTA VI will expand the borders to the rest of Leonida, we’ll probably spend a lot of time getting reacquainted with the city we used to play in.
Like the other protagonists, Rockstar Games has never revealed Vercetti’s fate, so there’s every chance he’s still alive and somewhere in the game. It’d be cool to see him get in touch with Lucia and Jason as they make larger waves in Vice City’s criminal underworld.
