Everwind Preview: Airborne Adventuring

The freedom of the skies

During Gamescom 2025 I sat down to play Everwind, an upcoming survival game that plays similarly to Minecraft but with one key difference, your objective is in the air, not underground.

As someone who’s played a lot of Minecraft in his life I couldn’t help but make the comparison, after all visually Minecraft and Everwind have a lot in common, and the survival crafting mechanic is similar too.

Like I alluded to before though, Everwind wants nothing more than to get players up in the air rather than below the surface.

My demo began in a keep filled with skeletons and after a bit of looting and exploring my objective was clear, I needed a ship. One could be found out on the open water but as you approach it’s clear that it’s not a naval vessel, it’s something better. Players get their very own sky ship to commandeer, which can be customised and built on to become a mobile base.

Powered by balloons that need to be fueled by whatever combustible material you can find, your ship is your key to ascending to the floating islands above your head. It was explained to me that the sky is divided into three tiers, the lowest tier being a beginner friendly level that’ll teach you the basics and give you a reasonable amount to explore. As you go higher though the challenge apparently ramps up significantly with stronger enemies but also more substantial rewards.

Like Minecraft there’s no real end goal in mind, you simply explore and make your own adventure, though the developers have said they plan to add additional content to provide more direction for players wanting to achieve something.

My first thoughts are overall pretty positive. I do like a game that just throws you in and leaves you to your own devices, and once I completed the short tutorial that’s pretty much what happened. The ship is obviously the best part of the game so far, and I’m interested to see what else can be done with it aside from simply make it bigger and place more things on it.

Everwind will be a multiplayer title so my first thought was whether there’ll be PvP, and while that’s apparently not the plan for the time being it is something being considered.

I need to see a bit more of the game in order to have a firmer judgement, as the majority of my demo was spent on ground level preparing my ship for take-off, and I didn’t get chance to explore anything higher than the first tier of floating islands, but from what I experienced I’m definitely interested in seeing more.
