15 underrated LGBTQIA+ games to play this Pride Month

We're here and we're queer

It is June and that means one thing.

It is time to celebrate Pride Month and what better way to show support by celebrating queer games and the queer developers who have helped make them.

That is why I have put together a list of LGBTQIA+ games that are available on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox and don’t worry, these will be some more underrated titles.

Of course, you should still show your support to the bigger AAA releases that feature queer characters but with a majority of these titles being from smaller companies and made by queer developers, I wanted to use our platform to showcase them during Pride Month.

So without further ado, here are 15 games featuring LGBTQIA+ characters or storylines which are available to play right now.

Steam -

First up is a A Date with Death, a 2023 visual novel/dating sim which will see you able to date(?) the Grim Reaper himself.

For those who romanced Grim in The Sims, this is the one for you.

As you create your own character with a choice of gender identities and sexualities, you will be able to dive into the game and decorate your apartment as you chat away with the Grim Reaper via texts and video calls.

“Can you resist his charm, or will you fall for the one destined to take your soul?”

Next is turn-based RPG In Stars and Time which was first released back in 2023.

Stuck in a time-loop, you will need to do what it takes to create a better future for you and your friends and find hope where there is none left.

This story-rich RPG features a diverse and queer cast, including gay, bisexual, trans, and asexual representation.

The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood is an interactive fiction title where you will immerse yourself in an enchanting narrative as fortune-teller Fortuna.

Condemned to exile, she must fight to regain her freedom by crafting her own tarot deck and shaping the cosmic Witch society.

This underrated title celebrates women by showcasing both cisgender and transgender women of all sexualities and identities.

In Saltsea Chronicles, players will embark on a story-driven adventure which begins with a kidnapped captain and a stolen ship.

However, it is not long before you get to explore strange and wonderful communities as you uncover a deep and dark conspiracy.

Again, this title features a diverse cast of characters with players able to embark on same-sex relationships and meet non-binary NPCs.

Those interested in a turn-based roguelite RPG can check out Desta: The Memories Between.

In this beautiful but puzzling dreamworld, you will find your friends, unlock spectacular abilities and overcome the odds in a “surreal tactical dodgeball adventure”.

Despite not looking like it on the surface, Desta features a beautiful queer take beneath the surface by following its non-binary titular character.

PlayStation -

In the indie action-adventure title UNSIGHTED, players will play as Alma who awakens to a city engulfed by war.

Before the life force of the people she loves melts away, Alma must traverse through the city in a world where every second matters.

Although it looks like a standard hack-and-slash on the outside, this game just so happens to feature a doomed narrative as Alma fights to reach her girlfriend before their time runs out.

True love has never been more prevalent than it is in Haven, a romantic action-adventure title which sees two lovers give up everything to escape to another planet to be together.

As they embark across an unfamiliar landscape, Yu and Kay must fight against what’s trying to tear them apart.

What puts Haven on this list is that players are able to select the genders of both Yu and Kay: male and female, male and male, or female and female.

A Year of Springs is a heartwarming story about three women in Japan facing issues with love, friendship, and gender.

This visual novel may explore the story of three women but it is Haru’s story that stands out here as she is a young and anxious transgender woman who just wants to enjoy herself but is afraid of any backlash.

With multiple endings to uncover, this visual novel explores the many ways that people of different genders and sexualities must navigate daily life.

From the creators of Gone Home is Tacoma, an sci-fi adventure game set aboard a high-tech space station in 2088.

Explore how the crew lived and worked as you find clues about a story of hope and trust in the moments leading to disaster.

As you explore the previous crew, you will uncover the story of lesbian couple Nat and Bert and learn about their love through a series of nearby clues.

Fans of Cyberpunk 2077 should check out 2064: Read Only Memories, a cyberpunk adventure game that “explores the social challenges of tomorrow through classic gaming”.

It follows the story of a journalist-turned-detective who teams up with the first sapient machine to unmask a conspiracy.

Better yet, the story features multiple characters who openly identify as gay or genderqueer and many moments teach having respect for people regarding their identity.

Xbox -

Psychological horror game Psychroma takes place in a haunted cyberpunk house where players will need to collect cards and explore the memories storied on them to piece together their past.

Featuring a unique artstyle, this side-scroller adventure features a deep exploration of transgender and queer identity with our main character Haze fights to uncover the identities of both themselves and other commune members.

Next is Sorry We’re Closed, an eccentric story-driven survival horror game about demons, angels and the world in between.

You will play as Michelle who must use her abilities to see between worlds and uncover secrets through a series of puzzles.

Not only that but Michelle is recently dealing with a breakup with her girlfriend and now she just so happens to be presented with a very beautiful genderqueer demon. What could possibly happen next?

Another turn-based tactical RPG and this time it is Ikenfell.

You will follow the journey of a bunch of troublesome magic students who find themselves fighting monsters and bosses as they uncover secrets that were never meant to be found.

If you are looking for a gay Hogwarts Legacy, then this is the one for you as it features all the joys of being queer.

Same-sex couples outwardly flirt with each other at every given moment and it is all totally natural and accepted and who could say that in a school about magic? Not naming any names, of course.

Being queer is for life, not just for Christmas and in Later Daters, you will get to immerse yourself in a retirement home where you can either find love or just look for a bit of fun.

“Remember, if the chairs are rockin', don’t come a-knockin.”

In this dating sim, players will be able to choose their pronouns (ranging from Mx. Ms. and Mr.) and also which gender they are interested in dating.

Last but certainly not least is Milky Way Prince: The Vampire Star.

This visual novel explores the heartbreaking truth of an abusive same-sex relationship. Courtesy of branching storylines, players will be able to relive a summer of idealisation and intimacy.

This semi autobiographical experience is not to be missed out on.
