A Vice City TV series is now in development and it will star iconic rapper 50 Cent, thus making sense of his recent GTA tease.

At the beginning of March, 50 Cent dropped a massive GTA: Vice City tease that sent the internet into a frenzy, sparking rumours that the rapper is set to star in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6.

The rumours also had fans wondering where the GTA 6 release date was and could it be announced soon. Well, as it turns out, 50 Cent’s tease had nothing to do with GTA 6. In fact, it was all for a Vice City TV series. Eat your heart out Miami Vice!

In an exclusive report from Deadline, the Vice City (working title) series will be a Lionsgate Television production and it will be streaming on Paramount+.

The Vice City series is an idea spawned by writers and executive producers Darnel Metayer (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) and Josh Peters (also, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts). It will also have Chad Stahelski (John Wick) as executive producer and director.

What’s more, 50 Cent’s production company G-Unit Film & Television will also be on board along with Alex Young and Jason Spitz on behalf of 87 Eleven.

According to Deadline, the Vice City series will tell the tale of three former friends and soldiers, who “return to their home city of Miami in the mid-80s after being dishonourably discharged from the military for their involvement in the Iran Contra scandal.

“Disgraced, displaced, and forgotten by the country they served and with no good job prospects, the three friends partner with a mysterious Colombian immigrant, uniting their financial needs and criminal ambitions to form a heist crew. Fueled by the need for American green, they traverse a violent and dangerous path in pursuit of the American Dream.”

So by the looks of things, it won’t be following the story of 2002’s GTA: Vice City. However, we won't know until we see the first trailer whether it will follow the tone of the beloved Rockstar Games classic.

In related Grand Theft Auto 6 news, a leak that revealed the size of the game's map had fans excited at the prospect of the biggest world to explore yet in the long-running series.
