The last we saw of Mace Windu in the prequel trilogy, he was falling to his death after being launched from a window in Palpatine’s office.

Bro was being electrified by lightning coursing through his body, flailing as he fell hundreds of feet to his, presumed death, leaving one of the most beloved Star Wars characters brown bread.

One Star Wars fan, who might be huffing on something, has been pondering if Windu could have cheated death, and is still alive out there in the galaxy.

On Reddit, Icy_Coyote9622 explained they don’t believe anyone has ever died to the lightning attack and, “the fall from Palps office (Wookiepedia says “over 500 meters”) which should give him at least a second to regain himself once the lightning stops being shot at him.”

This leads the Redditor to believe Windu could have used The Force to stop his fall, noting that Anakin was free-falling through traffic in Attack of the Clones, and came out unscathed.

Others aren’t convinced, or at least don’t want Windu to have survived.

“While I think he could have easily survived, I’d rather he remain dead just because it’s better from a story perspective,” explained RealHumanFromEarth.

ReyPhasma argues the otherside, saying, “People like to get up in arms about the idea of Mace surviving/being brought back, but personally I've always thought it made the most sense for him.”

Several other characters have been brought back into the canon even after suffering a worse fate than Mace Windu.

Others believe the explanation isn’t all the simple, with one fan noting, “I think the issue though is that Palpatine was torturing him with Sith lightning long enough that it looks like Mace Windu eventually falls unconscious, before he cannonballs Mace outside the window.”

Where do you fall (pardon the pun) on this issue? It’s possible he could have survived, but it would cheapen the impact (oh, the puns) of his death.
