Star Wars confirms how many Jedi actually survived Order 66

Surviving brought its own set of challenges

Revenge of the Sith is my all-time favourite Star Wars film. Yes, even ahead of The Empire Strikes Back.

It’s one that oozes nostalgia, but that’s not the only reason why I adore it.

The duel between General Grievous and Obi-Wan Kenobi, the finale on Mustafar, the transformation of Anakin into Darth Vader … it’s a film of epic proportions.

Of course, it’s also the film in which we see Order 66 enacted - the protocol ordered by Darth Sidious in which clone troopers turned on the Jedi, resulting in thousands of deaths.

It goes without saying that not all Jedi perished, with Yoda and Obi-Wan being two of the most obvious examples.

But have you ever stopped to ponder how many might’ve survived in total?

If you’re nodding your head ‘yes’, then you’re not alone.

ICYMI: We recently sat down with the cast and creatives of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.

It’s largely agreed upon that around 10,000 Jedi perished during Order 66, a devastating number.

As for how many survived, well, it’s believed to be around 100.

No precise answer has ever been officially given but, of course, Star Wars fans have hoovered up every bit of media out there over the years to land on the estimate.

Naturally, the true total could be slightly higher than this.

The estimate of 100 is based upon named Jedi who have appeared in Star Wars films, TV shows, comics, games, or books set shortly after the events of Order 66.

It stands to reason though that some Jedi are unknown to us and therefore it’s impossible to count them.

Reddit user XevinsOfCheese makes an excellent point that “almost every inquisitor is a captured Jedi who survived the Order and was tortured until they changed sides”, explaining why the Jedi feel like such a rarity despite a fair few surviving.

“Surviving Order 66 had to be pretty easy if you weren’t fighting in the war or commanding clone troopers (like Cordova for example). The difficult part was always surviving the inquisitors, Vader, and the years that followed the purge,” added Serious_Course_3244, which is the storyline we see explored in the Star Wars Jedi game series.

The truth of the matter is that whether you survived Order 66 or not, you drew a pretty short straw either way.
