Star Wars fans slam apparent Sequel Trilogy retcon

Do we want answers?

Star Wars fans slam retcon lore related to the sequel trilogy for one of its most recent, beloved characters.

The Star Wars lore is about as vast as the galaxy, far, far away itself, with loyal fans discussing favourite moments of the franchise and speculating on interesting topics, whether it's considered canon or non-canon.

Sometimes, these discussions can get quite heated because let’s just say that Star Wars fans are a passionate bunch, and to be fair, they’re one of the reasons why the franchise has remained so popular since its inception in 1977 with Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

In 2015, after a 10-year hiatus from main movie entries in the series, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens was released, which began the new sequel trilogy.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens starred Rey, an unknown character played by Daisley Ridley, who had a strong connection with the Force and was joined by her lovable droid sidekick, BB-8.

However, those were not the only two new popular characters that were introduced in The Force Awakens, because we also had Finn, played by John Boyega and Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaac, and it's the latter character that is the topic of discussion.

There’s a theory that Poe’s parents could be Cassian Andor and Bix Caleen from the fantastic Disney Plus series, Andor. Which makes sense, they all kinda look alike.

Yet, as mentioned by Twitter user Star Wars Holocron, Poe’s parents were already established in the Star Wars comics from Marvel. But the comics have been known to change lore before or make fan theories canon, otherwise known as retcon.

“Why the bloody hell does everything always have to be connected? He probably just got a boring job and lives a boring life in a middle-class home with a wife and kids. The end,” exclaimed NoZoup.

“Plus, it was established Poe’s dad is the one who handed Han Solo the charge when destroying the shield generator,” explained InfiniteSWMa, as mentioned in the comic book Shattered Empire #1.

“Considering they’d have to de-canonise the entire Star Wars 2020 comics just to make it work, and all for a fan theory for a character that we’d probably never see again, I doubt it happens. It wouldn’t be worth all the hurdles to make it work,” said Nomad9223.

Long story short, just let things be as they are. Thank you.
