Pokémon boss teases Ash and Pikachu's return to the anime

Could the duo return?

While the Pokemon anime has moved on, giving us a new hero to follow and a whole new ensemble to love, we can’t help but miss Ash Ketchum and his Pikachu. After all, many of us grew up while Ash was pursuing his dream to ‘catch ‘em all.’

It’s understandable that many miss him as he personified the Pokemon franchise to some degree, and certainly represented the brand beyond the games. The question is already out there, “will we see Ash and Pikachu return?’ even though they’ve not been gone for long. Well, we have an answer, of sorts.

Pokemon Horizons has gotten off to a great start and is the leading Pokemon anime

Speaking to Variety, reported by Screentime over on Twitter, the Pokemon boss has commented on the much-asked question saying “Anything is possible.” Now, that’s not much to go on. It wasn’t elaborated, there were no possible plans on how Ash would return if he indeed did. While I’d love to see him come back, maybe as a cameo as champion, it’s clear that the Pokemon company has moved on and is putting everything behind Liko and Roy and the future of Horizons.

It was a groundbreaking moment to retire Ash and Pikachu after he finally became champion. It took over 20 years, and the goodbyes for the show were sad, but things moved on. At this point, Ash could only come back for a few episodes, to give long-time fans a little joy. Let’s hope, if the decision is made, that it’s not for a couple of years and actually benefits the character and the show in which he appears.

As one person says on Twitter, having him come back as an adult, would be the wisest decision and he could play the role of mentor. That would be a lovely full circle for his character arc.
