There are many reasons so many adore the anime adaptation of Nintendo’s Pokémon, but arguably, Lillis’ ability to bring to life such vibrant and strong female characters played a huge part.

Some fans weren’t even born when Lillis started voicing Misty and Jessie, however, that hasn’t stopped them falling in love with her legendary performances.

Truly, Lillis’ characters have spanned generations.

In a social media post by the original English actor behind Ash Ketchum, Veronica Taylor wrote a long, heartfelt post about her co-star.

“We all know Rachael Lillis from the many wonderful roles she played. She filled our Saturday mornings and before/after school hours with her beautiful voice, her terrific comic timing, and her remarkable acting skills.”

The post continued, “Rachael was an extraordinary talent, a bright light that shone through her voice whether speaking or singing.

“She will be forever remembered for the many animated roles she played, with her iconic performances as Pokémon's Misty and Jessie being the most beloved. Rachael was so thankful for all the generous love and support that was given to her as she battled cancer.”

A memorial in Lillis’ honour is due to be held, however, a date for when that will take place has yet to be disclosed.

On Twitter in the UK, ‘Misty’ is trending as an outpouring of condolences comes from fans far and wide.

User Mecha Girl Of The Day* commented, “I don't think I have a single friend who didn't grow up watching the 4Kids dub for Pokémon, and Rachael's performances as Misty and Jessie were always comforting and welcome. Please rest in peace.”

Another fan said, “This breaks my heart. I got the honour to meet Rachael last year at Comic Con, telling her how much she played a big role in my childhood voicing Pokémon characters such as Misty, Jessie & more.”

So many are mourning this tragic loss.

Although it saddens everyone here at GAMINGbible to say farewell to Lillis, we’re so grateful to have been able to enjoy her talents throughout the years.
