Tommy Vercetti hailed as Rockstar's greatest protagonist by GTA fans

It’s a strange ol’ time for Rockstar Games. Officially, it’s been a good long while since we heard from the company. In terms of the rumour mill though? It is rife right now, my friends.

As you may have heard, it’s widely believed that a Red Dead Redemption remake has been in the works for years. In recent weeks, a new rating for the game appeared online, reigniting hope - and now, insiders are claiming it’ll be announced in August. Could they be talking about Gamescom’s Opening Night Live? It’s certainly an exciting thought. That’s not all. Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, also seems to be teasing a remake of GTA IV. The only game that we know for certain is in the works is GTA VI so take this all with a pinch of salt, but there’s definitely a building anticipation surrounding Rockstar. In the meantime, fans have been debating their favourite Rockstar protagonist and Tommy Vercetti has come out on top.

Over on Reddit, the ‘Who is your favourite Rockstar Games protagonist and why?’ discussion was kicked off, sparking an outpouring of responses. There was one name that popped up time and time again though. That of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City’s Tommy Vercetti. User Robu-san wrote, “Mine hasn't changed since 2002. Tommy Vercetti. When Vice City came out, my favourite movies were all gangsta films. Having the voice of the dude from Goodfellas playing in a setting heavily inspired by Scarface was dope af. So he's my favourite protagonist because he's in my favourite GTA game.”

AndyB2708 added, “Couldn’t have worded it any better myself,” while SEEENRULEZ said, “Yep. Same. Tommy Vercetti is the GOAT as far as I’m concerned.” Ray Liotta, who brought Tommy to life, sadly passed away in 2022, but it’s clear that his work in the franchise has left a lasting impact on fans.

Of course, there were several other prominent characters mentioned. Among them: Arthur Morgan, Cole Phelps, Max Payne, and Niko Bellic. Who’s your personal favourite? I think I may be team Arthur.
