Tomb Raider Teaser Leaves Gamers Disappointed

Get a move on

A new Tomb Raider teaser has left fans disappointed following an apparent no-show at Gamescom Opening Night Live.

It’s been seven years since the last main Tomb Raider game, and it’s getting a little silly now how long we’ve had to wait for the next big Lara Croft adventure.

While we’ve at least had the rather excellent remasters of classic Tomb Raider games (despite some weird AI accusations), it still seems like we’re a while away from seeing what Crystal Dynamics is cooking.

In recent weeks, the official Tomb Raider account on X (formerly Twitter) has been posting about the games that make up the Legend trilogy.

That’s Tomb Raider: Legend, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, and Tomb Raider: Underworld.

Yesterday, 19th August, the account published a new post two hours before Gamescom Opening Night Live, indicating a possible appearance during the show.

“Tomb Tours is BACK, and we are heading to the Mediterranean in Tomb Raider: Underworld,” reads the post, accompanied by some footage from the game. “Dive in to solve ancient puzzles, say hello to Underpus, and dodge a shark or two. The reward? Thor’s gauntlet and a chance to meet Atlantean queen.”

Considering the attention made towards the Legend trilogy, the running theory at the moment is that Crystal Dynamics is working with Aspyr for a third remaster collection that brings those games to modern platforms.

After Tomb Raider was a no-show at Gamescom, however, it’s left some fans disappointed that there doesn’t seem to be any news regarding any new Tomb Raider games or remasters.

“I don't remember a worse time as a Tomb Raider fan. Truly,” wrote one fan on X earlier this week. “And I've been here since the beginning. Not even the transition from TRU to TR2013 felt this way. It's pure agony at this point.”

“We won’t hear anything before Season 2 of the anime and LAU remasters if they are going to happen,” another wrote. “At this point the schedule is crystal clear.”

Hopefully Crystal Dynamics is able to share some news at some point soon. I mean, we now live in a year where Hollow Knight Silksong is finally coming out, so anything is possible at this point.
