A potential new Tomb Raider leak has got fans losing their minds, as information about the next game in the long-running popular series dries up.
It’s been seven years since the last main Tomb Raider game, when Shadow of the Tomb Raider rounded off the ‘Survivor Arc’ for Lara Croft and finally saw her taking up the titular namesake.
In the years since, we’ve had a few new Tomb Raider projects, namely the 2018 film starring Alicia Vikander, the 2024 animated series starring Hayley Atwell, and a variety of other spin-offs and cameos for the character in other games.

Lara fans have also been able to enjoy the remaster collections of the first six games, which were released between 2024 and 2025.
While information on the next mainline game in the series has been sparse over the years, we know that it will run on Unreal Engine 5 and will “unify the timelines” by including elements from all three eras of the franchise.
A new rumour posted on the Tomb Raider Reddit page has spilled exactly what might be happening behind closed doors that might be causing some delays within Crystal Dynamics.
In a now-deleted post, it’s alleged that the next Tomb Raider game underwent a “major creative overhaul” in 2023, and is now targeting a May 2026 release.

However, the report also claims that this date could be delayed or brought forward due to the release of GTA 6 in the same month.
The post also suggests that the upcoming live-action reboot for Amazon Prime Video will begin filming in July, and the animated series will debut on Netflix in October.
It also claims that a remastered collection of the Legend trilogy will be released on 14th February, 2026, similar to the previous two remasters.
We have to stress here to take all rumours with a grain of salt, especially ones with historically unproven sources. You’re better off waiting for official confirmation from Crystal Dynamics or Embracer.

There are also a few errors in the report, such as 14th February, 2026 being a Saturday, an extremely unlikely date for a game launch.
It also calls the live-action Tomb Raider reboot a film, when it’s already confirmed to be a TV series.
“I can sleep easy, Aspyr and LAU, lets go, I can live with that,” wrote one user on the Tomb Raider Reddit page. LAU is a reference to Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld, the three games that make up the Legend trilogy.
“I hope this isn't true,” another user wrote. “I was really hoping they inject more classic Tomb Raider into the new game but if they're trying to reach more mainstream audiences I can already see the cinematic game that feels like I've played it a dozen times before.”

“All of this taken with a grain of salt for sure, but seems believable,” a third comment wrote. “I knew the minute Amazon Games took over the IP was officially cooked, RIP Tomb Raider.”
As a massive Tomb Raider fan myself, I understand just how much it can suck to go years without any new information on the new game.
Whether or not it’s true, it’s best to just stay a little more patient and wait for Crystal Dynamics to officially reveal it.
I’m sure we’ll be more than pleased when it finally gets announced.
