The Last of Us Part I has seen a massive leap in sales by 238% following the recent launch of the HBO TV adaptation.
Developed by Naughty Dog, the quality of immersive storytelling is nothing new for veteran fans of the studio, whether it be The Last of Us or Uncharted. However, following the early success of the HBO adaptation, it seems that the remake is bringing in a new legion of fans.
As reported by Gamesindustry.biz, The Last of Us Part I has seen a massive leap in sales by 238%. Following the premiere of the TV series earlier this month, the PS5 remake has shot back into the top 20 boxed sales charts in the UK.
Furthermore, The Last of Us Remastered which was released for PS4 in 2014 has also seen a massive leap in sales of 322% jumping to no.32 in the charts. Which isn't bad for a game that is nearly 10 years old.
Elsewhere in the boxed UK charts, Fire Emblem Engage which was released for the Nintendo Switch on January 20th claims the top spot. What’s more, taking up the remaining top five sports are FIFA 23, God of War Ragnarok, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
The second episode of The Last of Us TV series has already aired in the US and UK. This means that we can now look forward to episode three on January 29th in the US via HBO Max and then for the UK on January 30th via Sky Atlantic.
In related news, The Last of Us HBO showrunner, Craig Mazin has claimed that Bella Ramsey’s version of Ellie is the best ever! That’s a bold take indeed.
"Ellie took longer because it’s a harder role to cast," Mazin explained in an interview with SFX Magazine. "We’re trying to cast a 14-year-old girl and acting is an incredibly difficult thing to do, right? It’s an easy thing to do terribly. It’s a hard thing to do okay. But it’s a really, really hard thing to do brilliantly. And children haven’t had that much life experience. It’s hard to find kids that can embody this. Plus, she needs to be funny, tough, violent and protective of herself. She also needs to make us believe that she’s going to have this connection with Joel, so it took longer. We saw over 100 people."
