The hype for The Elder Scrolls VI is already out of control. Following up on one of the best games of all time, Skyrim, has to get fans excited.

One Bethesda veteran has warned the community to cool their jets though.

Starfield will be getting its first official DLC with Shattered Space later this year

Bruce Nesmith, who worked on classic Fallout titles as well as Starfield, has said that it will be “almost impossible” for the sixth Elder Scrolls game to meet player expectations.

This comment, plus more, came up during an interview recently.

Nesmith followed up the comment by saying that it would “undoubtedly” be an “amazing game.”

It’s hard, at this point, for any Bethesda game to not be hyped up by the fans. They’re a studio that has consistently delivered strong RPGs that take over players’ lives.

Of course, this does come back to bite them when it’s time to release something new, as Nesmith comments.

“Elder Scrolls 6 is undoubtedly going to be an amazing game, but it's going to be compared to all the previous games that Bethesda made. Just like every studio's games are going to be compared to their previous products.”

When it comes to big budget follow ups in such extensive franchises, there’s a lot to live up to. It’s not just excitement for a new game, but how that game will add to the series.

To quote Nesmith again, “You know, the 30-year-old who is making a piece of art who's a professional artist, he can't control the expectation because he's got all this history, you know - it's there whether he likes it or not.”

The Elder Scrolls VI is still a long way off and that’s just more time for fans to stoke the hype engine, something this industry is very good at.

Perhaps when we see a new trailer that hype will be tempered, but that’s incredibly unlikely.
