Resident Evil 4 HD, the mindblowing remaster of the classic game that has spent eight years in development, will be out of the door next week. Given how gorgeous it looks, we're sure that fans will certainly consider this version of the game as highly as the official remasters and ports of Resident Evil 4.

Cris Morales and Albert Marin are the two developers who have been toiling away at their passion project, spending thousands of hours and thousands of dollars to paint Resident Evil 4 with a glossy coat of paint. It hasn't only been a task of upscaling the original textures in the 2005 game, as Marin has actually travelled to places like Wales and Spain to snap photographs of historic architecture like Raglan Castle and Palau Güell as inspiration, in the same way that Capcom's art team did all those years ago. The developers balk at the concept of cutting corners, expressed in an interview with The Verge, and a roster of software, stock sources and custom-built tools help to realise that original haunting experience of playing Resident Evil 4 for the first time.

Here's our video on the history of the iconic survival series - check it out!

"It may sound like an easy challenge, and it is, if you don’t have an original texture you need to be faithful to. You can’t imagine how complicated it can be to find a rock surface that matches with the original among the hundreds of different kinds of rocks nature has to offer!" joked Marin. I'll let the trailer speak for itself here:

Pop that wallet back in your bag, by the way, as the mod is completely free. Rumours are rampant that Resident Evil 4 is the next entry to get some spit and polish from Capcom following the success of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 in 2019 and 2020 respectively. If these whispers come to fruition, Marin and the Resident Evil 4 HD team aren't concerned that it will take attention away from their efforts. "They are different and complementary experiences. Just think about any Hollywood remake. Most of them don’t hurt the original movie, and they are alternative visions of the older title," surmised Marin, saying that the project is more about the journey than the destination. Though, if you were wondering about that destination, the mod will be released on February 2nd.
