'Stray' Modders Have Already Added CJ Into The Game And Oh God

The year's most wholesome and loved game has strayed into nightmare territory.

Modders are known for their absurdity. Thomas The Tank Engine stalking the corridors in Resident Evil 2 is a prime example of how silly things can get. And yet, they're still managing to shock, surprise, and feed us nightmare fuel. We're not sure whether to laugh or scream at this latest mod from Sirgalahad172 - in which the adorable feline protagonist from Stray is replaced by none other that Carl Johnson, CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Humans aren't the only ones enjoying Stray. Take a look at some of our feline counterparts reacting to the game.

CJ is enjoying a second life in online meme culture, so it's no surprise that modders are using him in their projects. Both he and Big Smoke (another character from San Andreas) recently found themselves in Resident Evil 2 (a popular game for mods). His appearance in Stray, however, gives us pause.

Sirgalahad172 gave an explanation: "This mod is intended as a joke as CJ needs to be modded in any game that exists". However, we're not sure if this justifies the enterprise. Twitter user GameGriffin shared a video of the mod, which needs to be seen to be believed. On all fours, with both hinge condylar joints in his legs, CJ traverses the world of Stray just as a cat would. He elegantly leaps to platforms, plucks his claws on carpets, and even opens his mouth for a cutesy meow. We can't help wishing, with this last one, for a CJ quote - "here we go again" might be apt.

Stray has already had plenty of mods; from changing the color of the cat, to replacing it altogether with a horse. But none of them are quite as surreal and terrifying as this one. Is this a sign of things to come, or will Stray be left alone for now? We know what we think, and we don't know whether to be scared or excited for more feline humanoids leaping from ledge to ledge.
