'Skyrim' Player Uncovers Strange New Creature After Ten Years

How did we not know about this?

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the gift that keeps on giving. Like most of you, I’ve put hundreds of hours into the fantasy RPG across various platforms and re-releases, and yet it still keeps managing to completely surprise me.

Did you know, for example, that it’s possible to create an entirely new creature using an obscure crafting method? I certainly didn’t, and going by the amazed reaction over on Reddit, I’m not alone in that.

Over on the Skyrim subreddit, user ‘nuclear_bubble’ demonstrated that combining gems or soul stones with albino spider pods can give the pods strange new abilities, and birth new types of spiders in the process. Yes, it is entirely horrifying.

The spider pods were introduced to Skyrim with the Dragonborn expansion, and act as grenades. By getting creative, you can imbue the eight-legged projectile with different elements and abilities. There are mind control spiders, flame cloaked spiders, electric shock spiders, and poison spiders. While some are claiming they were well aware of this fun little feature, many more have expressed complete amazement that it somehow passed them by after hundreds of hours of playtime.

“I have over 5k hours and have never seen this,” remarked one user.

“I have a lot of hours in the game myself and most of them are doing the same few quests over and over because I always forget to do new things like finish the main story quest or check out the DLC content,” added another. “Instead, I play for a while, don't play for like a month, then start a new playthrough and do it all again.

“So yeah, I've never seen this before despite Skyrim being my second-most played game.”
