If you’re a Skyrim fan, and honestly at this point who isn’t, and you want to ramp up your next playthrough, taking it to a graphical level you’ve only dreamed about, you need these mods. Before you get all excited, it’s worth noting that this performance, which is being compared to the next generation of consoles, requires over 1,000 mods running on a beast of a PC.

Digital Dream, the YouTube channel that often brings us these mind-blowing graphics videos, has graced us with some astonishing footage of Skyrim. It looks like a brand-new game with tremendous levels of detail.

Skyrim remaster for PlayStation 6 please

As I said, you’re going to need a beefy PC to get this running; a 4090 is a must, plus a good processor like the Ryzen 9 7950x, otherwise, it’s not worth attempting. This will likely fry your beloved rig. Digital Dream has provided a mod list, so this is re-creatable if you have the hardware.

You’ll notice that the footage is shot in third-person view which really helps show off the details in the armour and how the new lighting engine creates shine and shadows. It’s a testament to how much good lighting can improve any game, but that feels like a disservice to the modders behind those wonderful new textures. After all, ray tracing on the old textures would just highlight the aged graphics.

The big question this brings up is, will we see this visual fidelity towards the end of the PlayStation 5 lifecycle? Or is this something that only the next generation of consoles will unlock? Of course, it would be amazing to play something that looks this good, but most of us are going to have to wait quite some time. We can only hope that the next batch of consoles can reach these heady heights.
