In Capcom's third quarter financial report for 2021, it released figures showing that the latest game in the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil Village, sold 5.7million copies over the past nine months. Not only this but its predecessor, Resident Evil VII has sold more than one million copies every year since its release.

Resident Evil's success as a franchise over recent years has been well noted by fans. The Resident Evil 2 Remake was both a critical and commercial success. While the remake of the sequel Resident Evil 3 didn't fare as well with fans, it still did respectfully.

If you want to see what all the fuss is about you can check out some early gameplay footage from Resident Evil Village in the video below.

A voice actor, who is supposedly playing Wesker in the remake of Resident Evil 4, spurred on rumours from fans after sharing concept art he claims to have received from Capcom USA, thus breaking his NDA. The popularity of the series and the remakes is so big right now that fans are trying to create a high-end remake of the cult favourite Resident Evil - Code: Veronica in Capcom's recent style. Not just that but they are doing a good job of it too.

Resident Evil Village hasn't only done well financially for Capcom but was a roaring critical success as well. Scoring an average of 85 out of 100 on metacritic it seems to have broken the curse placed on the series during the last trilogy in the franchise.

The spooky monster game is not only doing well in terms of numbers. It won four Golden Joystick awards including Ultimate Game Of The Year, and was nominated for five different awards at The Game Awards, gaming's largest award ceremony. While it lost out to It Takes Two for Game Of The Year, Maggie Robertson managed to scoop up an award for Best Performance as the voice of Lady Dimitrescu, a character based on a real life serial killer.
