'Red Dead Redemption 2' Easter Egg Explains Where John Got His Iconic Hat

'Red Dead Redemption 2' Easter Egg Explains Where John Got His Iconic Hat

John's got an eye for style, what can we say?

John Marston is one of the greatest video game characters in the medium and one could argue that he’d be nowhere near the top of the list without his hat. An eagle-eyed Red Dead Redemption 2 player has actually found that stylin’ accessory and fans have worked out how it comes to be one of his belongings.

There are whispers in the wind that the original game is going to be remastered in the way that the Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City games have been for the Definitive Edition. As the Grand Theft Auto remasters have benefitted from "across-the-board enhancements” blending classic gameplay elements with flashier visuals, an improved user interface and a whole host of new trophies, Red Dead Redemption would likely look a little like these, if the rumour of a remaster is verifiable.

In the time being, players are still wandering the Old West stumbling upon all sorts of discoveries in Red Dead Redemption 2. They’ve found a possible hint for the next Grand Theft Auto game, the story behind the Bear Claw Camp massacre, the real name of John Marston’s son and even how to save Lenny’s life. Funnily enough, an exact copy of John’s hat has been found in a shack in Bluewater Marsh and fans are inclined to say that this was definitely lifted by the protagonist towards the end of the game.

Black Belle, the fearsome outlaw that the player meets during The Noblest of Men, and a Woman quest, took up residence in a ramshackle house in the swampland before the bounty hunters ambushes her and Arthur. Once the enemies have been defeated and information on Jim Calloway has been secured, she rides away and is never seen again. Exploring the house, the player finds odds and ends scattered across the rooms and floors, as well as a hat hanging up on one of the hooks.

Remember John loses his hat when he falls from the train? Players reckon that, as Arthur instructs Sadie to travel to Copperhead Landing towards the end of the game, Sadie and John met up here and looted this house for supplies. Given that it’s a good hat, with a little pizazz with that feather and weather-worn with the scratch along the brim, John probably pinched it and that was that.
