Many would likely agree that when it comes to Wild West adaptations, nothing comes close to the Red Dead Redemption series from GTA developer Rockstar Games.

Rockstar Games’ western series began with Red Dead Revolver for PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox in 2004. When Red Dead Redemption arrived in 2010, the series was taken to new heights and that was expanded upon further with Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018. At the heart of the stories for both the 2010 and 2018 games were John Martson and Arthur Morgan, played by Rob Wiethoff and Roger Clark, respectively.

It doesn't matter which Red Dead Redemption game you play, each has immersive worlds to explore filled with fun activities and interesting NPCs. However, no matter how fun each game is, it’s likely that John Marston and Arthur Morgan will be the ones leaving a lasting impression all these years later.

We know that the release of Red Dead Redemption 3 is likely, after all, Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive has all but confirmed its upcoming existence. We don’t know for sure when it will arrive but it will be after the launch of GTA VI which releases in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Yet, if you were dying for some more Arthur Morgan played by Roger Clark, a surprise return was recently announced that would see the actor narrate the audiobook from Tore Olsson, Red Dead’s History: A Video Game, an Obsession, and America's Violent Past.

To promote the novel, students at the University of Tennessee in the USA, a university in which author Tore Olsson is a professor of history, were surprised with visits from Red Dead Redemption stars Rob Wiethoff and Roger Clark before students went home for spring break.

“Students in my Red Dead History class - the world's first college course to use the RDR video games to teach American history - were shocked when I brought in two surprise visitors the day before Spring Break,” Olssen tweeted.

Just by watching the video featured in the tweet, I don't think I’ll ever get bored of hearing the real voices behind John Marston and Arthur Morgan. It must have been an awesome experience to be in class on that day.

Red Dead’s History: A Video Game, an Obsession, and America's Violent Past releases on 6 August 2024 and is available as an audiobook and in physical form. As for both Red Dead Redemption games, each is available on PlayStation and Xbox with the sequel being available on PC.
