Red Dead Redemption 3's most optimistic release date is still laughably far away

It'll be worth the wait though, right?

Although Rockstar is putting its finishing touches to Grand Theft Auto VI ahead of its release later this year (we hope), talk has already turned to what project the studio will turn to next.

As you can probably expect, many are hoping that it will be Red Dead Redemption 3.

Check out the launch trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 below!

With Red Dead Redemption 2 launching back in 2018, fans believe it is about time that Rockstar announced its next instalment, especially as RDR2 is widely regarded as a modern-day classic.

As a sequel to 2010’s Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar’s Wild West entries are beloved by many so it is no surprise that fans are eager for a third instalment, or at least a spin-off featuring some of their favourite characters.

However, with Rockstar having been hard at work on developing Grand Theft Auto VI for the past decade, the Red Dead series has taken a bit of a backseat and fans are starting to realise that it may be a very long time until we see its next instalment.

If we even get one at all, that is.

Taking to r/reddeadredemption this time last year, one user had the following to say:

“Forget about Red Dead Redemption 3.

There's no point getting hyped up about something that's so far away.

Realistically, the earliest that a new Red Dead game is coming out is 2033, and even that's optimistic, given that Rockstar makes one game at a time now.

Also, I'm almost certain that it won't be called "Red Dead Redemption 3". It'll be called Red Dead *something else".”

They believe that Rockstar’s next project will be a brand-new IP.

“The fact that two of the writers for Red Dead 1 and 2 have now left the company even further confirms that the story is complete,” they continued.

“Not that that wasn't already obvious, as the story came full circle so beautifully at the end of Red Dead 2, with no loose ends, aside from some mysteries that are better left to our imagination anyway.”

What followed was almost 300 comments ranging from people agreeing with the original poster, coming up with their own theories surrounding Red Dead 3, and even betting money on the fact that a third instalment will be released.

However, with Rockstar not having made any official announcements as of yet, it still remains open to speculation.
