Aside from the mammoth series that is Grand Theft Auto, another jewel in Rockstar Games’ crown is the mighty Red Dead Redemption.

The Red Dead series initially began with the linear but fun Red Dead Revolver in 2004 for PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox. However, the series hit new heights with the arrival of Red Dead Redemption in 2010, followed by its prequel Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

When Red Dead Redemption was released in 2010, it let gamers live the Wild West fantasy life like never before. Whether it was being immersed in its main campaign, partaking in bounty hunter missions, tracking legendary animals or just exploring its gorgeous world, there was plenty of fun to be had. Those aspects were enhanced further with the 2018 release earning a score of 97 on Metacritic with the “Must-Play” accolade, solidifying Red Dead Redemption 2 as an all-time great.

Following the success of both Red Dead Redemption games, a third entry in the series has always felt inevitable - and Rockstar Games confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 3 is on the way. However, we will have to wait until after GTA VI, whenever that time may be. The forthcoming arrival of Red Dead Redemption 3 has sparked speculation that perhaps the next sequel could feature a female protagonist. Whether that happens or not, only time will tell.

In other discussions taking place on Reddit, an AI-generated protagonist for Red Dead Redemption 3 has left fans feeling divided. “I asked an AI to create Red Dead Redemption 3 protagonist,” said Redditor Captain-Kula, kicking off the discussion on the thread.

“Is he Asian? He looks possibly Mexican,” asked Kelcher1. “I would love the protagonist to be a 'son of undocumented immigrant' story with a character like this,” replied iantayls. “Regardless of what his race is, I think he looks pretty good. He could be the son of a Chinese railway worker. Imagine adding that dynamic to the old west,” said RogueRequest2.

Some other Reddit users were feeling conflicted about the AI-generated design due to the ‘uncanny valley’ vibes. “He's also 50 and 5 years old,” exclaimed a user. “May you drink the blood of your enemies on this most blessed of cake days,” said another.

It’s likely that by the time Red Dead Redemption 3 is released, it will be available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S leaving last-gen consoles behind as with GTA VI. It will be interesting to see whether Red Dead Redemption 3 will be a sequel or a prequel, personally, I’m hoping for the latter.
