Red Dead Redemption 2 players discover they can stop their horses dying in final mission

Red Dead Redemption 2 players have discovered a way to prevent your horse from turning into animal glue during that final mission in the game… but I’m not entirely sure you’re going to like what they’ve come up with.

When Rockstar Games put together Arthur’s final mission, Our Best Selves, they really didn’t hold back on tugging at our heartstrings.

Look, it’s bad enough that Arthur, the coolest video game protagonist of all time, has to bite the bullet at the end… but did you really have to make us watch our favourite horse die too, you monsters?

The outcome of Our Best Selves has spawned hundreds, if not thousands, of threads online about how to save our equine buddies, but I’m gonna tell you ahead of time that if there is a way to save your horse during the mission itself, I’ve not found it.

However, there is a workaround.

Over in a thread on the r/reddeadredemption2 subreddit, players have figured out a way to keep your horse alive. Unfortunately, you’ll have to sacrifice another horse in their place.

“If you put your horse into a stall and use a different horse for the final mission, he won't die, commented user Complex-Swimmer-9998.

“Sadly you can't give the horse to John, but you can get another horse named the same thing.”

“I ride my horse out to Hamish's camp and leave it to live a long and fruitful life with Buell,” replied another user.

“Then I steal/break a horse and do the final mission. I save the last mission of that story thread for John so he inherits Buell.”

Personally, as much as it sucks seeing your horse go, I think it’s still worth taking them into the final mission. That scene where Arthur mourns his horse, provided you’ve fully bonded with them, deserves to be seen.
