Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the best open-world games I've ever played, so it's little surprise there are still mysteries left to solve.

All these years later, players in Red Dead Redemption 2 are still making completely new and unexpected discoveries to this day. This really shouldn't come as a shock, given the sheer scope and scale of Rockstar's celebrated open-world, but I love to see how absorbed fans still are.

One of Red Dead Redemption 2's biggest unsolved mysteries is, of course, the fate and identity of a man called Gavin.

While exploring the world, players will randomly bump into an NPC called Nigel - typically around one of the major towns. Speak to Nigel and you'll learn he's looking for his mate, Gavin.

It's possible to bump into Nigel a few times, in fact, with him becoming increasingly dishevelled throughout the game. By the epilogue, it's clear Nigel has lost his mind while searching for his old mate.

A popular Reddit post by u/DontTurnAround1 uploaded to r/reddeadredemption suggests that you can find, but that he's actually... dead "Swear to God this is Gavin," they say. "More in comments." Sure enough, the post shows the corpse of a man in fine attire. But what is there to suggest this is Gavin?

"I just started Chapter 6, and was on my way to the widow in the north east mission," the Reddit user explains. "I saw a X marking a dead body and went to look, thought it may be an ambush. When I got there, there was a guy getting off his horse to look at the body, felt scripted but idk. He didn't have any special dialog. But this guy has a VERY similar outfit to Nigel. I might try to take his body to a city to see if anything happens."

Others are less convinced, however.

"No. Gavin is still out there," one fan determined.

Another added: "Gavin is an alternate personality of Nigel, whose purpose was completed, and he left Nigel."
