Red Dead Redemption 2 fans agree Charles Smith needs his own game

Fans are in agreement that Charles Smith would make the perfect protagonist in Red Dead Redemption 3.

Towards the end of last year (and no, I still haven’t processed that we can now say last year), Red Dead Redemption 2 celebrated its fourth anniversary. If you haven’t checked out Rockstar Games’ iconic title, what in the yeehaw are you doing? Please, for your own good, start it right now. Consider me telling you this my good deed for the day.

To celebrate the game’s birthday, fans hailed it as one of the “greatest games ever.” RDR2 is yet to receive a new-gen update - and fans would certainly like one - but it’s still one of the best-looking titles out there. Given the success of the franchise, it feels like a given that we’ll get another instalment from Rockstar eventually. What that story will entail, we don’t know, but fans would like to see Charles Smith take centre stage.

Take a look at some of our favourite Red Dead Redemption 2 wins and fails below.

Fans gathered on Reddit to discuss the idea, with user Burstpwik kicking off the discussion. They wrote, “I hope Charles gets his own story in RDR - the best friend in the world.” Donaldg563 added, “I think he’s too good of a dude to have a redemption arc. Not that it would happen, but a DLC would be dope. Like, bridging his time from the main story to the epilogue,” while Possible_Menu_2910 said, “I vote Charles for main protagonist in Red Dead 3.”

Kikiyuyu did share a valid concern though, writing, “I don’t hope that because it increases his probability of dying.” It’s true. Others users hoped that Lenny, Dutch, or Hosea might take centre stage in the next RDR outing.

As I said, Red Dead Redemption 3 feels like a question of when, more so than if. Rockstar has made no comment at all on the potential project though to date. Perhaps 2023 will bring us a RDR3 and GTA VI reveal. Stranger things have happened.
