Though we’re still waiting eagerly for the next mainline game in the Pokémon franchise, we do have Pokémon Legends: Z-A right around the corner, but that’s not the only thing fans have been enjoying.
The constantly thriving ROMhacking scene has been keeping Pokémon trainers adventuring, with several bangers released this year, including Pokémon Emerald Seaglass.
If you’re not already aware, ROMhacking is a community version of modding, where a creator uses the base of a previously released Pokémon game and makes their own adventure.
As you might expect, Pokémon Emerald Seaglass is based on Pokémon Emerald, but this version features new characters, NPCs, and lots of extra Pokémon to catch.

In order to play, you need to use a Game Boy Advance emulator, which can be found on PC, and plenty of mobile devices.
This opens up a huge world of new ways to play, from Pokémon games with simple quality of life updates, to complete overhauls that combine Pokémon with Mario.
Over on Reddit, one fan has made a post about what a stellar year it has been for Pokémon ROMhacks.
Of course, Seaglass gets a mention, but so do several others that are well worth your time.

When asked, one member of the subreddit notes their favourite, saying, “Mine would be Seaglass. It's fresh to be able to use weaker Pokémon without struggling with stats.”

Another user agrees with the original thread poster, noting, “We’re in the golden age of romhacks, honestly.”
If you’re yet to dive into the world of ROMhacks, then you’ve got a whole ocean of superb experiences ahead, not just for Pokémon, but also many retro platformers given a new lease of life.
