Friends, I actually can’t deal with the excitement of Pokémon’s 30th Anniversary this week. As your resident pro player and die-hard Pokémaniac, I am currently vibrating at a frequency only a Zubat could hear.
Between the announcement that Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are finally hitting the Nintendo Switch eShop and the absolute avalanche of merch, my wallet and I are in a bad place right now.
First thing you need to know about me - I love me a Poké plush. I have an IKEA Billy bookcase filled to the brim with Eevee plushies - over 100 of them on my last count. I brought 2 suitcases back from Japan with me, which I’ll proudly say was 99% from my visits to every single Pokémon Center on the mainland.
I also have shelves upon shelves of limited edition Pikachu plushes. My rarest is the exclusive Pikachu from the Observatory Exhibition in Japan, but he’s about to get some serious company with the recent reveal of the latest Pokémon 30th anniversary merch at the kick-off event in Japan.

Look at him. I don’t know what else to do apart from write my feelings for him out. I love him so much. I must have him. He will be shelved soon
Monochrome Pikachu Plush Announced for 30th Anniversary
As you can see, this is a real throwback to the monochrome mascot you can find in Viridian Forest in Pokémon Red, Green, and Blue.
This user summed it up best:
If the Pikachu plush wasn't enough to kill my savings, Pokémon also announced an S.S. Anne diorama model, perfect for everyone who spent hours trying to interact with the truck near the dock.
It’s okay, I fell for the playground rumour too.
Can you believe - that’s not everything I want from the anniversary kick-off event!
You can also get mini keychains of each game's original packaging, from Red & Green, to Pokemon Legends: Z-A. It reminds me a bit of the keychains you can get at the Nintendo Museum.
Yes, I have all of them, along with the giant viral Wiimote plush.

How To Get Them
At time of writing, there’s no official announcement on how we can get our hands on this adorable 30th anniversary Pokémon merch.
It’s likely that this is a Japan-exclusive range of items, but never say never - it’s also likely we’ll see a Western release in the near future.
My wallet is ready and yours for the taking, Pokémon.
